Feeling jealousy and regret, he wants to approach her. But right then, some other guy has approached her with interest. Perhaps he planned to be in the same place, perhaps it’s a coincidence. Our character has been left to fend for himself by his friends. The first verse lyrics give the song its complex scene. Let’s pretend for a moment that the chorus isn’t part of the song… yet. And the story presented goes far beyond the words.
While this interpretation is not inaccurate, it fails to realize that the song encapsulates a dual nature. In that respect, the song is a modern piece of carpe diem poetry. And for many people, it’s the part that taglines the meaning of the song. It’s very catchy chorus is the part most people are familiar with and can follow.
"We Are Young" has a dual nature that is difficult to pick-up for most people. This may be complete tripe, but I'm posting it anyway. So she's a little shaken (upset)when she first cut it, then she uses it as lipstick(yeah creepy) but it's basically her exceptance, and it's like the equivalent of her agreeing to go home with him (in relation to the song) hope i explained it right, but I'm pretty positive it's the meaning of the music video. Now in the song he mentions she ended up scarred, she cut her thumb when she was done with the apple. So it starts off black n white, then brightens and she begins to peel this apple, now the apple is symbolic to a relationhip, the lights correspond with her emotions sometimes their bright, mild bright, then they reach lows, just like a relationship. So I sat and thought then suddenly it all occured to me. Which made no sense since she started to shake her head and get upset before she even cut her hand. Went to a yahoo question similar to it askin the question, and somebody's answer was oh it's like she's loosing her virginity. Okay so I was asking myself wat the music video meant in relation to the song.
